About

'It's that on the surface it says that "the internet is a new form of democracy". So what you're seeing is a new pluralism, a new collage, a new mosaic of all sorts of different ideas that's genuinely representative. But if you analyse what happens, it simplifies things. [Those in social media] are parasitic upon already existing sources of information - they do little research of their own.

'What then happens is this idea of the 'hive mind', instead of leading to a new plurality or a new richness, leads to a growing simplicity. Far from being "the wisdom of crowds", it's the stupidity of crowds. Collectively what we are doing is creating a more simplified world.'

This has made my day.

There are now loads of films on youtube! Most of them aren’t very good well known, but there are quite a few classics in the mix including The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, and this, Buster Keaton’s 1927 silent masterpiece, The General. If you are a fan of 1950s b-movies there are shedloads. For the directory, click here.

An umlaut is a diacritic mark representing a sound shift. A Spanish umlaut is the same but with fried potatoes and onions.

Bon Iver: Skinny Love (live at Glastonbury)

… and two days later, this Sunday teatime treat. Unfortunately the lump-at-the-back-of-the-throat-inducing rest of the set has not been uploaded, to the best of my knowledge.
